The Malvern Trio - Strings Trio with Piano

This professional piano trio is based in Worcestershire and is made up of piano, violin and cello. The piano trio is a highly versatile ensemble, lending itself equally well to music from a wide range of styles and can be further added to with other instruments such as flute or voice.

The three musicians greatly enjoy playing together, and pride themselves on making a rich beautiful sound which we are confident will enhance your special event.
Each of us has a wealth of experience of performing both classical and contemporary repertoire at events ranging from small intimate weddings, to prestigious corporate functions.

They have a rich and diverse repertoire list ranging from baroque favourites such as Pachelbel’s Canon or Bach’s Air on a G String, through classical and romantic pieces by Mozart and Faure, to excellent arrangements of Gershwin and Beatles songs.

Whether it’s something you heard on Classic FM, a piece with nostalgic associations, or music to create atmosphere of calm or celebration, we can put together a programme to help make your event truly memorable.

If there is a particularly special piece that we don’t yet have, we can usually find or arrange it.

The Musicians

Cello

The cellist gained a degree in music from Manchester University, where she studied cello with Bernard Gregor-Smith, latterly of the Lindsay String Quartet.
After postgraduate study with Stefan Popov at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she lived for 15 years in Nottingham where she was in demand as a freelance orchestral player, chamber musician and teacher.
Since moving to Malvern in 2000, she has played regularly with string quartets and orchestras in the region, and is a co-founder of a string quartet and this trio. Much as she loves playing string quartets, she particularly enjoys playing the piano trio repertoire as it gives the cello more tunes!

Piano
The pianist studied piano with Alexander Kelly at the Royal Academy of Music, also harpsichord and violin. While there, she won a scholarship to do a post-graduate year specialising in the art of accompaniment. Since then, her concert career has been mainly in the field of chamber music and as a professional accompanist for singers, instrumentalists, choirs and opera companies. As a soloist, she has given several first performances of contemporary music as well as the occasional concerto.
She has also enjoyed passing on her love of music through teaching. She has performed in venues throughout the UK, from concert halls to cathedrals, from bars to ballrooms! She was a founder member of the Damase Ensemble and now of this act. She also has had a long association with the musical theatre as performer and conductor, in everything from opera to cabaret.

Violin
Born in East Africa, the violinist studied piano from the age of three, first picking out nursery rhymes on her Grandmother's knee! She took up violin at the age of six and won a music scholarship to The King's School Gloucester. She won many prizes at music festivals including the cup for compostition at Oxford music festival four years in a row. Her love of Chamber music began at twelve after reaching the final of a national Youth Chamber music competition with her quartet at that time.
She studied violin at the Conservatoire in Birmingham and gained her performers diploma under ESO co - leader, Janet Masters.
For 14 years she has sung regularly with Aldwyn voices - who have performed for BBC TV and radio broadcasts over the years. In September 2006 she was given an award in Switzerland for solo violin work she did for sky TV.
She continues  to be in demand as a session musician on various tracks used world-wide for film,TV, radio and multimedia. This has included performing performing alongside The Who's John "Rabbit" Bund.
