Fiddlers Green - Irish Ceilidh Band

This band have established a well deserved reputation bringing fun and energy to a wide range of parties and occasions. They entertained Mick Jagger at a private party and regularly appeared at H M Treasury and the Southbank Centre.

The band members are flexible enough as regards personnel, instrumentation and musical style to be able to tailor a band to your specific requirements, and go out as anything from a duo to a six-piece, amplified or acoustic, with or without a caller. All bands are punctual, smart and sober, but still good fun!

An example of a duo would be on guitar/vocals together with our banjo player. Their accordion player can be brought in to enlarge the band. Other instruments such as fiddle, flute, tin-whistle, double bass or snare drum may also be added. Speciality instruments such as Scottish or Irish bagpipes, bodhran (Irish drum) or traditional dancers are also available by arrangement (subject to availability & musical considerations).

Their most common format for a ceilidh consists of four musicians plus a caller who will teach the dances from scratch - no experience needed! A ceilidh is something really different and ideal for a successful party, as it is a fun way to get families, friends and colleagues to mix and meet and because all age groups become involved. The faster dances are an energetic work out, and they also play in a more relaxed romantic mood.

They play traditional Irish, Scottish, English and American songs and tunes with innovation, flair and vitality. Musical influences include; The Chieftains; Planxty; The Bothy Band; Altan; Ally Bain; Boys of the Lough; Jimmy Shand; The Pogues; Van Morrison; The Dubliners and Christy Moore and the many talented friends they have met over the years in the vibrant traditional music scene. They are both sensitive to the occasion and responsive to the mood of the audience. If you wish they can concentrate on one particular style e.g. Scottish or Irish throughout the performance.

They bring an iPod to provide similar background music in the breaks. They have a wide selection of tracks available. Themselves normally set up half an hour before the performance and pack down as soon as they finished. They can play iPod from a few minutes after their arrival and while they set up as well as during our breaks. Their equipment can also be made available to play iPod before or after the performance for additional fees.

Fiddlers Green - Irish Ceilidh Band Feedback

Many thanks for Sunday and being so flexible. We all loved the band and apologies for such cramped conditions.

The Baroness McDonagh, The Provenance, Birthday Party (October, 2013)

The ceilidh was a great success the orchestra really enjoyed themselves! Please pass on my thanks to the band for all they did - they were marvellous. If our residency is back at Goldsmiths next year, we'd love to have them back, but I'm afraid we don't know what we're doing until the last minute. I'll certainly be back in touch if we need a band for our Spring/Summer residencies though! Thanks again.

Ben Salter, National Youth Orchestra, Goldsmith's College, National Youth Orchestra Social Event (January, 2014)

We just wanted to say thank you so much for doing such an awesome job at out wedding. It was an amazing evening and so many people commented on how much they enjoyed the music and the dances. You have an excellent and very patient caller, and you are all incredibly talented musicians - we loved every minute. We will definitely be recommending you to anyone looking for a ceilidh band :-) Thanks again.

Vicky Cobley and Anna Lawton, Lismoyne Hotel, Wedding Reception (November, 2014)

Louise Fisher, The Tour Company on behalf of Robert Smith of The Cure, Ghyll Manor Hotel, Birthday Party (December, 2014)

Now that we are back from honeymoon we just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for the fantastic ceilidh you ran at our wedding and provide some feedback, should it be of use. Firstly, the ceilidh went down like a storm! Everyone we have spoken to since returning from honeymoon has mentioned the ceilidh and stated what tremendous fun it was. Prior to the wedding many of the English side of the family and foreign friends had expressed trepidation about dancing but your explanations and calling throughout the songs had everyone on their feet joining in. Prior to the wedding you got in touch with us asking for any requests and putting our minds at ease when we panicked that we hadn't sorted a 'first dance'. On the night you coached us through an easy waltz which went down reasonably well ... even if the Groom did almost slip over on my dress! We had a fantastic experience and great evening and would definitely recommend you to our friends and will re-book you if we organise another ceilidh in the area.

Lindsey & Douglas Hogg, Dodford Manor, Dodford, Northa, Wedding Reception (April, 2015)

Thank you all for your sessions Saturday evening . Although the wedding breakfast and speeches went on for rather longer than expected, once the guests moved into the marquee your caller got things going really well. Despite Angela being reluctant to do a first dance, nevertheless, she was enthusiastically dancing away with Gerard for a lot of the time & was obviously very happy. All the guests enjoyed themselves and thought your band was great! .

Terry Prichard, Dedham Vale Vineyard, Green La, Wedding Reception (May, 2017)

Tracy Watchorn, Moreteyne Manor , Woburn Road,, Wedding Reception (September, 2017)

Hello all of the band who attended our wedding at Moreteyne Manor on 09/09/2017! What an absolutely fantastic interlude of music you gave us - we all absolutely loved it! I'm just so sorry I didn't get the chance to come and thank you personally on the day, it was a bit of a whirlwind - but I have the most beautifully vivid memories of dancing with my uncle in the lounge. Such wonderful musicians and you played a perfect array of songs for us all to enjoy. Paul heard the sea shanty and was very excited, especially when I told him that it was for him. We hope everything went ok for ye too and that you enjoyed the venue. We have had lots of people asking about you so we will be sure to pass on your name and website to them. Thanks for adding a wonderful dose of celtic magic to our special day. Lots of best wishes.

Karen and Paul Savage, Moreteyne Manor , Woburn Road,, Wedding Reception (September, 2017)

Amazing!!! The band was superb. The songs were performed to the highest standard, and they were FUN. Our guests had an amazing time, and by the end, everyone was dancing. At one point, the band even called a miniature impromptu ceilidh dance: we don't know who initiated this, but it was a fantastic read of the crowd, who adored it. Again, we received so many compliments on the band. Thank you so much for playing our wedding last Saturday. You all were fantastic, and your music made the evening joyful and truly unforgettable. With gratitude.
